News

BESSEMER, AL (WBRC)- Bessemer police are looking for a pair of shoplifters who escaped after colliding with a train during a police chase.

The chase started at the Family Dollar store in the 600 block of 19th Street North in Bessemer. Around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, Bessemer police received a 911 call reporting the shoplifters. When police arrived to the scene, the suspects fled in their vehicle. The suspects are described as a black male and a black female traveling in a van.

Police say the suspects drove a few blocks from the Family Dollar store, went around a cross-bar and collided with a train at Carolina Avenue and 18th Street. The van was damaged in the collision but still able to run. Bessemer police lost contact with the suspects when they drove around the train.

Fairfield police found the suspects' van on I-59 north at exit 118 in Fairfield. The suspects were not with the vehicle and are still on the loose.
